Red-flanked Bluetail Tarsiger cyanurus is a Asian bird, but has a history of vagrancy and this female has been being seen in the back yard of a gracious Lake Forest Park, WA homeowner who has graciously let hundreds of birders view the bird from a path beside her home to look into her back yard.
I was lucky enough to see the bird this morning on my second try after missing it a week ago. The homeowner has made viewing much easier, and this AM greeted me at the road in front of her house and showed me the curved branch under a Forsythia bush where it seems to like too perch.
Sure enough, before long she landed on the fence behind and then dropped down onto the very branch she described.
This is my "lifer" Red-flanked Bluetail for Washington State, and only the second tiime I've seen this species, so I'm pretty pleased with this morning's birding.
The photos are barely adequate, but the bird was first rate
Good birding.
