Are you aware that the soda you throw away into the trash bin could turn into a beautiful flower pot? Or that plastic water could turn into a charming bird feeder for the hummingbirds. This single act of turning waste materials or trash into something useful and eco-friendly is called " Recycling.
Recycling could be described as the act of processing used materials into new products to be used again. Many would think recycling is all about sorting your trash, but honestly, it goes beyond that. It's a creative recommitment, educating us about the environmental and economic value of waste, and interestingly, this act boost-straps our creative instincts.
And since "Recycling" falls under the DIY umbrella, it's the perfect niche for us at Build-it. It's our utmost interest and desire to support, reward, and onboard projects and companies in the recycling space respectively.
Without a doubt, everyone is a recycler, and a funny thing is, 99% of us don't even know it. Naturally, we tend to dispose of things we no longer use or that have absolutely zero value to us. There are lots of factors that influence our behaviour to dispose of 'useless' items, such as the need to manage space, reduce clutter, and ultimately prioritize resourcefulness.
Having mentioned recycling being our everyday lives, it is also important to know how it all started. Interestingly, the recycling exercise only began about 40 years ago, while the concept and notion of reusing materials have been around for thousands of years.
"In 1031 A.D., the first evidence of recycling was recorded. The Japanese shredded their old documents and records, and remade them into new sheets of paper, selling them through mom-and-pop stores around the country. All over the world, people often reused the containers their goods came in as a way to save money. Once people discovered the money to be made in selling raw materials, the modern-day recycling industry began." Source.
You will agree with me on the notion that recycling has a significant positive environmental impact by;
Reduced Junkyard Waste: Without a doubt, recycling plays a major role in terms of diverting materials from junkyards through practices like recycling, reusing, and composting. By so doing, it conserves natural resources and minimizes environmental pollution.
Energy Saving: Recycling can indeed save a substantial amount of energy, because it reduces the need for energy-intensive processes like extraction, mining, and refining of raw materials.
Reduced Pollution: Recycling helps in reducing pollution by minimizing waste and incineration, conserving natural resources, and ultimately reducing energy consumption during the manufacturing process.
You'll agree with me that recycling elevates the economy by creating new jobs, fostering resource efficiency, and ultimately reducing costs. For instance, by conserving resources and energy, recycling also supports some notable industries that rely on recycled materials, which in turn boost their growth and innovation.
