I am writing this blog because silence has never protected the oppressed—only the oppressors. For decades, countless Filipinos suffered under state violence, corruption, and the unchecked power of those entrusted to defend them. Many of these stories were buried, ignored, or deliberately erased. The victims have yet to receive justice, yet many of the very figures who enabled abuse continue to walk freely among us, attempting to rewrite history and revive the conditions that once allowed terror to flourish.
My work exposes police violence, corruption, and the human rights violations that scarred the Philippines during and after Martial Law. The Martial Law Diaries and related documents are not just historical artifacts—they are testimonies of survival, resistance, and truth. They record a period when the dictatorship controlled every aspect of life, when “human rights” was treated as a subversive term, and when the armed forces served not as protectors of the people but as instruments of fear.
I am sharing these accounts because they are part of a larger global struggle for self-determination, justice, and freedom. What happened in the Philippines was not isolated; it was part of a worldwide pattern of authoritarianism, imperialism, and resistance. Understanding this context is not merely academic—it is essential to preventing history from repeating itself.
This blog exists to educate, to remember, and to resist forgetting. It aims to empower readers with the political and social awareness that the victims of oppression were denied. It is a reminder that while many behaved like sheep out of fear, others stood firm, fought back, and refused to surrender their principles.
By revisiting the past and exposing ongoing abuses, we challenge the myths used to justify dictatorship and corruption. We honor those who suffered and those who resisted. And most importantly, we safeguard the truth—because truth is the strongest defense against the return of tyranny.
