Why do we Not Have Flying Cars
We have been dreaming about having flying cars since we were children, and since our parents were children, and even maybe since their parents were children, yet we still do not have any. Sure, we have planes, helicopters, jets, and even electric cars that do not even need gas, but we have not cracked the code on flying cars yet, have we? Dr. Holl gave many examples and statistics in his presentation on the advancements of technology over the course of fifty years, and then, it drops off abruptly in the 1970s, which he called the “Great Stagnation of Flying”. Could it be because we just did not have the right technology during that time? Or maybe we could not keep up with the costs, but either way, every advancement we had made towards flying with the birds just completely stopped. In one theory, Dr. Holl accredited this loss to the Department of Energy being created, and I tend to agree. Just as with medical care, as soon as the government gets involved, every attempt towards progress is stopped and, in some cases, even regressed.
Could We Have Flying Cars?
The simple answer is yes, with no regulations and unlimited budgets, we could have flying cars right now. The key phrase there is “no regulations,” which is almost impossible in today’s society. The government can and will control anything they can for the sake of preventing fun it seems like. The government brags about upholding freedom, yet as soon as we want to do something within our freedoms, they put regulations on it. This is their loophole; they cannot ban anything outright without major pushback from society, so instead, they put major regulations on it so it is almost impossible to accomplish, without using the trigger word “ban”. It is the same idea as when you get your license for the first time. You are allowed to drive to school, sports if you have them, and anywhere your parents need you to, all before your curfew, and only with their permission, if you grew up in a strict household as I did at least. This goes for many different departments as well; most regulations that are put in place really are for our safety and protection, except for maybe the FDA regulations on healthcare and medicine. There are numerous medications out there that can be life saving, cures for cancer or other life altering diseases, and the FDA will not approve them without years’ worth of testing and lots and lots of money in their pockets. Even if the success rate in other countries is over 80% or whatever the magic number may be, they still will likely not approve medications simply because the healthcare system in the United States is a money-making scheme for politicians to run their political careers on trying to “fix” it.
Final Thoughts
We have been dreaming of flying cars for the last seventy years, how many more years will we have to dream until we can finally have one? Well, the real question is, how many years until regulations get revaluated and lifted so we can begin to finally build them? We have had the technology for years now and we are still reinventing every day, we have the safety, per all the other regulations set into place from every other department, but we do not have the permission, and for what? I am under the impression that the government is withholding that information because they want to keep as much control on us for as long as possible, and they seem to be adding more and more things to their control the farther we try to stray. We are no longer a “free country” because we cannot go places without permission or some form of regulations on how we do it, we cannot make choices for ourselves and our own bodies in some states, and in others we still need permission. Not having flying cars is not only about not having flying cars, it seems to be a metaphor for something greater. Not having flying cars means not having freedom in the land of the free.
