Genesis 3:9-10
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto
him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and
I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
There is something inside fallen human beings that when we make mistakes we think we can hide from God. Adam knew he messed up and he set the tone for what so many people have been doing ever since. Instead of approaching God, apologizing and restoring fellowship with Him, Adam hid. For the first time ever, he felt so much shame that he couldn't face God. King David also had his moments of sin and imperfection when he probably wanted to hide from God, but he knew there was nowhere he could go to avoid the all knowing watchful eyes of the Lord...
Psalm 139:7-17
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither
shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I
make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in
the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right
hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me;
even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the
night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light
are both alike to thee.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast
covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and
that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was
made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest
parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being
unperfect; and in thy book all my members were
written, which in continuance were fashioned, when
as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me,
O God! how great is the sum of them!
When we mess up - and we all do, sometimes in a big way - our first response should be to run TO God, not away from Him. When we do that, He promises to forgive us, cleanse us and restore our fellowship with Him...
1 John 1:6-10
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and
walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship one with another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a
liar, and his word is not in us.
There is only one way to find restoration and cleansing; when we present ourselves humbly to God as sinners in need of His amazing forgiveness.
All praises, glory and honor to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ forever and ever.
