Some Jahovah's Witnesses knocked on the door just now. Normally I defect them by saying my mom is a Witness (she is). This usually gets me off the hook pretty easy. However, this time I dared to be a little different.
I used this opportunity to do what I always do lately:
pitch crypto to people who have no idea what's going on.
It's interesting because the last time I talked to my mom she thought God's Kingdom was coming soon™ to replace the governments of man. The more Witnesses talk about this stuff the more I'm like:
Hm, sounds a lot like crypto.
Call me crazy; I may be in an echo chamber of confirmation bias, but crypto is all about community building and opt-in governance structures. I was even able to beat this guy to the punch by saying:
The love of money is the root of all evil.
So I talked about how yes, I do think that governments as we know it are coming to an end. Whether by God, luck, or unknown forces, cryptocurrency is leading the way and allowing us to choose our own rules that we want to follow while keeping others in that community honest.
I even talked about how I think money will eventually become irrelevant. In the future all that will matter is our reputation within the communities that we choose to interact with.
This entire interaction made me realize just how young this financial revolution really is. Crypto creates communities and gives communities the ability to create currency with custom rule sets. Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses have there own coin yet? How is it that no other religions have figured out the value in creating their own currency? They have the ultimate built-in community.
Thus far, the vast majority of crypto projects have created their own communities. It's only a matter of time before already established communities get targeted. There will be a coin for Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. There will be sub-coins for different factions and even further sub-coins for individual churches. Anywhere that a community is looking to exchange value, there will be a cryptocurrency to fill the void.
This is in line with my idea of how Amazon should create an equally distributed currency among all it's employees. Any community will be able to employ the same strategy. There are 8 million baptized Jehovah's Witnesses. Imagine if they airdropped an equal share of coins on all 8 million people. Such an action would create the most decentralized distribution the world has ever seen. This is especially true if the church were to encourage rules to decentralize the currency even further.
Put your money where your mouth is.
In my experience most religious organizations are highly hypocritical. They seek to control and extract value while claiming to promote peace, freedom, and love. They often do more harm than good.
The blockchain will eventually put these institutions to the test in a transparent system. Catholics are fucked. Transparency will shine a light on many transactions that were previously untraceable.
Will they practice what they preach, or will their system implode as greed rears its ugly head? The days of two-faced serpents being in charge is coming to an end.
