The Vatican is saying the unleavened bread given during Holy Communion is purely wheat and is made so that there is no da
nger of decomposition. Roman Catholics say the bread and wine served at the Eucharist are converted into the body and blood of Christ through a process called transubstantiation.
The belief commemorates Christ sacrifice of himself on the cross. The ruling must be followed by 1.2 billion Catholics around the world even though wheat tolerant worshipers will be disappointed to hear.
The ruling was announced in a letter to all bishops. The Vatican has decreed that it can still be made from genetically modified organisms. Pope Francis therefore that the bread made from another substance, even if its grain, or if it mixed with another substance different from wheat to such an extent that it would not commonly be considered wheat bread, does not constitute valid matter for confecting the Sacrifice and the Eucharistic Sacrament.
