True but it was not and is not anywhere near as bad is orthodox Islam was and is. However, what you will find when exposing the evils of radical Christianity, specifically Catholicism and Anglicanism, is that the state is blamed for the evils and so "the church" is then innocent. The state did indeed carry out most of these evils; however, more often than not they were at the behest of "the church". In addition, many will say "the church" or it's leadership spoke out against evils the state was doing, and so again, "the church" is innocent. What is not said is that "the church" rarely exercised its power to cast those doing evils out from "the church", but instead merely voiced opposition to maintain the appearance of innocence.
