One of the most amazing things about writing is the way it helps me peel back the layers to discover more about myself and my world. I've discovered through just allowing myself to write whatever I'm drawn to that I have a pretty distinct passion for remote work or location independent income.
I fell into this pretty much on my own and just through my unique situation. Some years ago I worked as a writer and editor for a PR firm. I loved it, but I didn't really see it as a long term thing. I didn't yet realize how this new way of working was going to catch on everywhere. I ended up in a regular job after that, but after getting pregnant and moving, I was sort of forced into entrepreneurship, since most people, shockingly, don't want to hire pregnant people. I knew I was gonna be knee deep in diapers anyway, so I started a cloth diaper service. It finally began to sink in that I love working for myself.

When we moved to Belize, I sold my business, and we planned to start another here (this time in hospitality). Well, you know about the best laid plans of mice and men, right? It didn't really roll out like that, and we actually lost a good bit of money, so we had to scramble. Belize has super strict laws about immigrants working here, and the work permit is pretty pricey, so that wasn't really an option.
At this point I started thinking about online work, which I can legally do since it's technically not in Belize. I put out some feelers to my network, and I began searching and searching. I started freelancing. My husband started transcribing. About this time I discovered worldschoolers and realized that people travel full time and work on the road. I knew I'd found my people. I discovered an abundance of new ideas for remote work. I also got seriously inspired by both the gifts of this life and also how potentially easy it could be.
I started diversifying a bit. I do some sales. Of course I still do some writing. My husband does some graphic design and other basic online stuff. I think multiple streams is crucial. As it started to become easier and more flowful, I realized this could be a dream come true for a lot of people. I realized most people have no idea this is possible. Most people don't know just how accessible this is.
Now I've decided I want to help people find their way. I'm now adding Remote Work Consultant to my multiple streams. Of course it's not for everyone. Some people really just want that steady, simple life. For those ready for adventure and freedom, I feel ridiculously excited to help them find a path.
