This game was released by Firebird, which was an offshoot of British Telecom, so another UK-centric mid 1980's release and this time the budget title Booty. Firebird competed with Mastertronic in the UK to get a niche in low priced releases to the masses.
I think I remember picking this up because 'cheap' and 'pirates!' and because of decent reviews as normally budget game = dross.
Most of my favourite early C64 pick ups were platformers, and Booty was a good one. A fairly limited number of screens (about 20) but each was just about the right level of difficulty to keep you interested but not frustrated. You had to guide your hero around a boat collecting different coloured keys to get through different doors to get to other parts of the map whilst collecting, you guessed it.... Booty!
Everyone loves some booty right?
Still fun on a recent playthrough, this game gets a very mixed reception which surprised me. One thing that sticks with me to this day is the music, which is a fun pirate shanty, until it plays and repeats over, and over, and over.... look it up on youtube and see what I mean!
All in all a decent game, especially for an earlier C64 release.
