Commando was pretty much the best of the upwards scrolling 'War' games released in the mid 1980's that spawned the likes of Ikari Warriors and Who Dares wins.
Released by Elite, this is similar to those in that it has the same awkward firing mechanics but also much crisper graphics on the C64 and faster more frantic gameplay.
What absolutely sets this apart though is the music, with possibly the finest music seen on the C64 from the legendary Rob Hubbard.
Like most scrollers in the mid 80's this was VERY hard, there are 8 levels in all but most of the times you are lucky to make it to the end of the first. Early computer games were all about quick replayability factor.
As always the game involved killing a bunch of bad guys as you made your way up the screen with the help of one shot bullets and a few grenades if you were lucky. Commando is probably one of the 'must haves' in a classic C64 collection.
