I was searching for a new series to start and although i prefer something with a lot of episodes or seasons, Kingdom caught my eye. All of this happened yesterday morning and today i finished it so you can imagine how i spent most of my time :P
General Info That Nobody Cares
Kingdom is a Netflix Original Series that released in 25 January 2019 and made in South Korea. Some of the stars are: Doona Bae, Greg Chun, Jun-Ho Heo and note that it is based on a webcomic! Season 1 has 6 episodes that are 45 minutes each and the genre of this show is Thriller, Zombie-Apocalyptic, Action, Period.
Plot
The whole series takes place in an era that kingdoms are thriving and as you can imagine most of the fights are solved with swords and bows. There are some guns too but since it's the beginning of them just a few people can handle them and are skilled enough to use them.
Inside the kingdom and to be more exact to king's palace something terrible happened. The King is ill and doctors are there to make him regain consciousness and rule his kingdom. Something feels off though, as nobody else is allowed to see the King even his son, the crown prince.
The son is keep trying to see his father but the queen, who is the same age as him or even younger, don't let him. Ofc that's happening for a reason and the main reason is because she is pregnant with a child. Now you may wonder "what the hell is he talking about? he is still the oldest son". That's not the case though, cause we need to make everything more complicated.
So what's happening is that the crown prince's mother was a concubine that is now dead, so the new queen wants power for herself. Not only that but her father is the king's chief investigator who also craves for power and wanna find ways to charge the crown prince for treason.
The King isn't alive but isn't dead, he has become a zombie so technically he is still living and that's why the prince can't become the king. Thus a journey begins with the crown prince and his personal bodyguard to find the doctor of his father and discover the truth about the zombie disease. Soon a zombie outbreak erupts and you can expect some marvelous and gory scenes in this zombie apocalyptic show.
What I Liked
I liked so many things about this series that i don't know where to begin. First of all i love Korean Films and Shows. I general love Asian cinematography but in my opinion Korea is the America of the movies and series in Asia. Sometimes even greater than America. Thus they know how to make a great film.
Secondly, the "medieval" era or whatever era/period this takes place is quite unique for a zombie genre. We have seen many zombie apocalyptic movies and shows like world war z, walking dead and even a Korean one that's called Train to Busan, so we are familiar with this type. We are extremely familiar with it in today's era but not in the one that the series take place. Now we have to see how people can fight these zombies with swords, bows and ordinary tools and how they can deal with this situation given the complete lack of technology they have.
Also, the acting is very good, the fight scenes are amazing and different in every aspect as you will see fights in different fields, with different numbers and different weapons. I liked the part that we have 2 different things that make the plot. The first one is the game of thrones kinda thing that we try to figure out what will happen in the palace and if the crown prince will be the king and the second one is the zombie outbreak. How everyone will deal with it, how exactly the king turned into a zombie and what will be the catastrophic effects they will bring?!
My Rating
It generally has very high ratings like 8/10, 8.5/10 and i can say i pretty much agree with them so my rating will be 8.5/10 as well. There also gonna be a season 2, it's announced so it's official but it's unknown when exactly it will come out!
