A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a beautiful novel by the same author of The Kite Runner, which I still have to read. Hosseini explores the hardships and struggles of two women, Mariam and Laila, eventually living in Kabul. They have to face the loss of loved ones, terrorism, war, domestic violence and other horrific situations. But there is hope midst all the tragedy.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is beautifully and almost poetically written by an author who deserves more publicity.
My score
8/10
I give this novel a solid 8 out of 10. A Thousand Splendid Suns* is probably not for everyone, especially not for children or sensitive readers, but it worked for me. Reality is sometimes worse than one can imagine.
