Well you ARE Papa Pepper after all. (you may be part goat and part parrot too) I think the pepper you ate got cross pollinated with something milder.
I've had similar experiences many times and have always noticed enormous variation with hot peppers. And like you said, even Jalapeños can come out hot as the blazes. I once grew a "mild jalapeño" that ruined every dish we used it in. And you really did have to use gloves to cut it up. This was before the scoville formulas came around.
