A nice tight writing. Although characters decision-making and their motivations seem odd. Ok, John had an affair and, because of this affair, there was a baby. What was the reason he was so afraid? Child support? The story doesn’t tell us if he had a family and other children. It seems he didn’t. More so, I think a man of his age, would be happy to find out that he has a daughter. Whom otherwise he would leave the 1.3 million dollars; put it in his coffin? Unless he was an extremely cold, heartless and super selfish person or had something wrong with his head. However, the story doesn’t give this impression. John seems like a regular man who is running away from some danger.

Now his daughter. Ok, she might be mad at her father because he wasn’t in the picture, while she grew up. However, it this a sufficient motivation to kill a person, let alone her own father. A normal reaction would be to confront him and get to know him. Sure, she could ask for money. It was her right. Yet again, to kill her father just to get his wallet? Also, how did she know that he had a bag with the money and was flying to Beliz?

What seems to me is that there are two parts of this story. Once, when a person comes to a diner during the rain where he eats his sandwich during the rain. The author wrote this very convincingly and well. Then there is another part about the money, illegitimate child, and murder. This seems like a made up fantasy. Then again, who would read a story in which nothing’s going on with the character, even though it might be written very well?
