The Gospel of Mark tells us that although Jesus preached outside the holy land, in the Phoenician region, the message of the Kingdom of Heaven was not intended primarily for the pagans but for the lost sheep of Israel. Only after the christian Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) and the travels of the apostle Paul, did the pagans begin to receive the word of Jesus, thus fulfilling the parable of the Wedding Banquet.
The first to be called for the design of salvation were the children of Abraham according to the flesh, the Jews. Jesus had to fulfill the promise made by God to David through the prophet Nathan, God had promised David a descendant who would forge a kingdom that would not be destroyed: "I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever" 1 Chronicles 17:14.
This is why when Jesus met a Greek woman who needed help, Jesus rejected her at the beginning, but in the end, due to the woman's insistence, Jesus in his infinite mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) worked a miracle for the greek woman and her family; this miracle, together with the faith of this woman who was not Jewish, is perhaps one of the first antecedents for what would later become a message for all humanity.
With these beautiful words, the gospel of Mark relates this miraculous fact:
"Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
´First let the children eat all they want,´ he told her, ´for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs.´
´Lord,´ she replied, ´even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs.´
Then he told her, ´For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.´
She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone." Mark 7:24-30.
