One of my favourite shows of the 70s when I was a kid was Blue Peter. It's a magazine show with all sorts of interesting guests and the presenters get to go on adventures. One of the presenters at this time was John Noakes who did a lot of action work, including the highest civilian parachute jump at the time. I was sad to hear that he has died today, but he has been ill for some time.
Kids' TV has changed, but there are still shows like this that introduce a new generation to the wonders of the world. They need presenters who can really engage a young audience and John was one of the best.
He had a dog on the show for many years. 'Get down Shep' became his catchphrase and was even made into a song.
