Ripple Token Whats The Point Of It ?

Yesterday they released news that they have won contact with Santander bank for a mobile app powered by the company’s distributed ledger. That can send payments to people across country within a minute between app.

This is great However the app does not use XRP the currency of Ripple.

Please tell Me what is purpose of thsi Currency what is the point of buying it if its not even used in there products

There is something not right and it does not make sense to me

If you have a product you would build the currency into the app so the customer has to use the currency so the own's of the currency see value.

This is not the case with Ripple sound like nonsense to me the hole company
