The Dutch city of Rotterdam in the province South Holland is one of the coolest cities in the Netherlands. It is home to the largest port in the world where as they love to say in Rotterdam "The money is made in
rotterdam so that Amsterdam can spend it."
The city is named after a dam that was made in the river Rotte in 1270 and it has mostly modern architecture , due to heavy bombardments in WW2 where a large portion of the city was destroyed.
The Markthal is a design by architecture firm MVRDV and is a residential and office building with a stunning market hall underneath its arches.

The cube houses (or as they say in Holland: Kubuswoningen) are famous for Rotterdam, but they have also been build in the small town of Helmond. The cube houses are a design by Dutch architect Piet Blom and their unusual shape derives from the urban roof concept.
