Today I walked the exact same route as yesterday, determined to improve my time to less than 16 minutes per mile. Yesterday, my training app said I had walked 1.50 miles in 24:01 for a pace of 16:01. Thrilled that I had a route with precise mileage to work with (or if not thrilled, at least not OCD-triggered), I made sure to follow that same circuit step by step. Today, however, when I hit "Stop" as I fell through the door, trembling and panting, the app said I had gone only 1.39 miles in 22:30 for a pace of 16:10. What?!
Horsefeathers, I cried! I knew my LOE (Level of Effort) was higher than yesterday and therefore the results should have been better. Of course, there were complicating factors. About 7 minutes in, it had started to rain and I knew I had to do something to protect my phone so I stuck it in my back pocket which could have caused a signal interruption. Supporting this theory of the case is the fact that when I reached the end, I had to re-open my phone to stop the event which I haven't had to do for any of my previous workouts. So, which one is wrong: the app or my perception of my performance? Obs the app so I am going to level-up my tech in the coming days to make sure this arduous journey is captured accurately. I didn't want to have to buy a cool new GPS watch to accompany me to Leadville, but it appears the Universe has spoken so I have no choice.
