Running in Oberstdorf
So, I am on holyday with my girlfriend’s family, to Obertdorf (Germany). This is a little village in the German Alps. Really peaceful and sportive, in the winter you can do a lot of winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, walking, ice skating, running {you can run anywhere if you are brave enough}). In the summer, there is a lot of walking, mountain biking, kayaking, mountain climbing and running. But enough about Oberstdorf. I can post some photo’s in the blog about it if everyone likes it.
The preparations
So, we arrived at Obertdorf, we went for a lunch i know I wanted to run so I needed carbohydrates. So, I Went for
- “Spetzel” typical food out of the region (German variant of carbonara)
- “Knudel” mix of potato and rise in a sphere
- Swine, typical for the Alps
- 1 bottle of water (1liter)
In the evening I needed some carbohydrates again and some vitamins. I ate:
- Some German Soup
- Asparagus with potato’s, and chicken
- Ice cream (not the best dessert for running bit what the hell I am on a holyday)
The running
In the morning at 7 o’ clock I woke up. And went for a run. I planned to run 10 kilometers. So I started running and did a bit easy cause I’m not used to run in the mountains, after 2 kilometers of running in the valleys I felt I was warmed op. So, I start running into the mountains. The first mountain was immediately the highest point, I reached in my run. 985 meter high it was. I ran 250 meter up hill. And it was killing. After I was up I had run 3 kilometers. I took 1 kilometer to recover from the mountain. After 1 kilometer I preceded in speed, for the couple kilometer. After 6 kilometers, there came a couple of hills so I slowed down, after I had ran the hills I toke back my speed, because I slowed down before the hill I didn’t need to recover after the hills. After a kilometer, it was downhill to Oberstdorf. I took some speed and proceeded to Oberstdorf. The last 2 kilometers where the most fast of the training. In total it was 10,51km in 51min
Recovery
After the training, I went for a breakfast, lot of vitamins and minerals (fruit, milk and bread). After the breakfast, we all went for a walk (uphill) in total it was about 12 – 13 kilometers. At the end of the day I went into the sauna 90 degree. For muscle recovery.
That was my first training in Oberstdorf,
