Today I got the closest to 5 miles that I've ever managed. I stopped because I was back where I started, not because I had to and it turns out that was just shy of 8km which is therefore just shy of 5 miles, another hundred yards or so and I'd have ticked over. It's becoming a bit of a thing with me that I'm doing greater distances, but every time I've not quite made the next kilometer up - Strava always tells me "something point nine".
Anyway the main factor on today's stretch was that I wasn't under pressure to get home to get to work. It being a bank holiday here there was also much less road traffic so I was comfortable coming back along the main road. I had only the barest idea that I was nearly at 8k because I knew that going down would be about 4 but I couldn't tell whether the way back was much shorter because it's mainly straight.
Anyway, my legs could have gone on. And yet again I'm reminded that it's a mental thing. Because I didn't have to get home and because I took a route that I wasn't sure of I let myself off the hook and just ran until I got back to the starting place. I think next time though I'll push just that bit further than I want to just to beat that "point nine" thing. I know I can do 8k comfortably (well comfortably-ish) and I'm fairly confident that I could have gone onto 10k today if I'd needed to. So that's the next goal
