It seems every week is the same lately, crappy weather through the week and then a beautiful weekend for running, cycling and anything else you can fit in. September didn't disappoint with some great Winter/Spring weather and some great opportunities to get out and have some fun. I am going to be focusing hard core on my Java Programming for the month of October(I'm calling it Javatober), but hope I can still get some running content out as well.
Even though I have an Ultra Marathon in only two weeks(Crap that's scary), I've been focusing on speed and strength for the month in all areas of my swimming, biking and running. I am stepping away from what I usually do in these situations to ensure I am as strong as possible without over training.
So this is my update for my last month(September) of training.
What Have I Been Focusing On
If you have read any of the posts I've made for @runningproject I have been doing a lot of research about working smarter instead of harder. This includes a lot of HIIT and steady state tempo sessions followed by making sure I am fully recovered in between these tough training sessions. I think a lot of people forget to make sure recovery is factored into their training, and it is only an after thought of time in between training sessions.
Welcoming Feedback On My One Legged Squat
As part of improving my strength, I took on a daily routine to build up and improve my one legged squat. I wasn't able to even do one at first...but now..."Look Ma, No Hands!!!" I am currently doing 10 in a row with my right leg stronger than my left but I'm hoping this will help. My daily routine has be doing building up from one rep on each leg to now 10.
The following is a breakdown from Strava on my July training with a total: 544.0km Run/Swam/Biked for the month

Upcoming Races
It seems like the Taupo Ultra has come around so quickly, so my other races over the Summer will be here soon as well...I just hope I have been doing enough.
- Toupo Ultramarathon(50km) - October 2018
- IronMaori Triathlon 70.3(Bike Leg) - December 2018
- IronMan NZ - March 2019
How The Month Went
I am really proud of myself and the way my training has been steadily improving. My run is slowly getting back to speeds that I have one and two years ago, and my bike speed is also improving. I have seen a steady increase in my average speed over the past two months and I have also gotten back on my time trial bike ready for the Summer ahead.
