Today’s run was interval training, urgghh. If you’ve read my other blogs then you’ll know I hate interval training but I want to get faster or I at least have to attempt them! Today’s intervals were run 400 meters hard then 400 meters recovery jog, 6 times! I wasn’t sure how I was going to measure 400 meters as I can’t set up my garmin to do interval training like this. Instead I decided on a pace that I wanted to run fast and slow then worked out how long it would take me to run 400 meters. It took some working out but I decided to run hard for 2 minutes 24 seconds then recovery jog for 2 minutes 40 seconds. This would have me running 4.8km in just over 28 minutes. I wasn’t sure how this was going to go as I really dislike running fast and the route I was doing was a route close to home that I run often but usually at an easy pace. There are quite a few inclines, not big ones but enough for me to struggle.
I jogged down the road first for a little warm up then I started running hard, this was so hard for me. I ran at about a pace of 4.55 minute per kilometre for 2 minutes 24 seconds then I slowed to a pace of about 6 minute per kilometre. I did this for 6 and a bit times till I got home. Which ends up being 5 km.
Yes it was hard and yes it was hot but I managed to do it, it might not of been exactly right with the correct distances and pace but it was close enough. In fact I think I ran better than I anticipated as my 5k time was faster than what I had predicted. In fact it’s the fastest I’ve ran this route since starting it over a year ago.
Here’s the stats
