Tantalum is a metal found in the mineral of tantalite. Its most important applications are: the manufacture of surgical instruments, dental implants and electronic components, mainly electrolytic capacitors.

This metal has a very important value since it is used in many industries such as the manufacture of mobile phones, computers, televisions, small appliances, automotive, artificial satellites, etc. It is necessary in any product that includes an electronic design, nowadays in most industries.
The implementation of the blockchain technology in the tantalum extraction industry is necessary for the traceability of the metal, since it is very important nowadays to certify that the extraction of the raw materials has been carried out in an ethical way.
That is why the government of Rwanda through the Board of Mining, Oil and Gas has decided to take a technological step and partners with the company Circulor that is going to implement the blockchain technology for monitoring the extraction and marketing of tantalum. Circulor's blockchain will be built on Hyperledger Fabric, an open source digital accounting software focused on the company and hosted by the Linux Foundation.
