Sidra Pino era (es) una marca de gaseosas elaborada en el estado de Yucatán, México y embotellada por Embotelladora de Refrescos Pino, S.A. de C.V., o La Yucateca, y dicha empresa también elaboraba la bebida llamada Soldado de Chocolate (pero eso lo hablaré en otro post). Originalmente, sus bebidas eran envasadas en botellas de vidrio y luego en envases desechables de PET y lata de aluminio.
La empresa fue fundada en 1888 por Don José María Pino Rusconi, un joven capitán de barco que deleitaba a sus invitados personales con bebidas naturales como la negra (vainilla y platano), y poco tiempo después fundo su propia refresquera. la hereda en 1935, El hijo Don José Ma. Pino Dominguez con Sidra Pino comienza a distribuir la gaseosa Coca-Cola que más tarde adopta la familia Ponce.
Se dice que era un intento de "copiar" a la Coca-Cola, dado que ese producto no llegaba a Yucatán, que aún era bastante rural por la época, y sobretodo, quien domino el mercado por increíble que parezca fue Pepsi, y fue hasta 1970, qué Coca-Cola con su filial "Cristal" comenzaron a ganar terreno.
Y bueno, además de otros muchos otros factores, como la venta de la empresa, malos manejos, poco a poco cayeron en ventas, al no poder competir contra los monstruos, Coca-Cola y Pepsi y su agresiva distribución y publicidad, la empresa cerro por completo en 2011.
Yo vivía en Cancún, en el estado de Quintana Roo, este estado es como el hermanito pequeño de Yucatán, y está solo 4 horas de Mérida, la capital de Yucatán, considera que la capital de Quintana Roo, Chetumal, está a 8 horas, esto es importante, para que comprendas que en Cancún en la década de 1990, recibía más influencia cultural, social, y económica, de Mérida que de Chetumal.
Wow qué genial fue volver a mi infancia.
Y fue más o menos en 1996, que probé por última vez la Sidra Pino Negra. Ya por la época era difícil conseguirla, y su competencia la "Cristal Negra" (una copia descarada), se había apoderado del mercado, y claro, apoyada de Coca-Cola, su distribución era masiva.
Sidra Pino tiene una historia de 140 años, y si te estás preguntando por qué no habías oído hablar de esta bebida azucarada, debes saber que su principal mercado de distribución fue Yucatán, en donde cada sorbo de la soda con plátano y vainilla reaviva la nostalgia.
Pues resulto que hace unos días, vi que la familia Pino había recuperado el control de la empresa, y había comenzado a fabricar nuevamente la icónica bebida, y no solo eso, la vendían por internet, a todo el país.
Por aproximadamente 20 USD, compré 5 botellas de Sidra Pino, fue genial recordar ese sabor, si bien algunas personas dicen que no es el mismo que del pasado, creo que están equivocados, están confundiendo el sabor de la imitación (Cristal Negra) que tiene mucho más azúcar, Sidra Pino es menos dulce, más suave y definitivamente no invade tu paladar.
Me resulta increíble estar a más de 2,200 kilómetros de Mérida, dar dos clicks y revivir momentos de mi infancia, definitivamente el futuro es hoy. Lo sé, lo sé, la nostalgia vende y yo soy su víctima perfecta. ¿Pero pueden culparme? 😂

For about $20 USD, I bought five bottles of Sidra Pino. It was great to relive that flavor. While some people say it's not the same as it used to be, I think they're wrong. They're confusing it with the imitation (Cristal Negra), which has much more sugar. Sidra Pino is less sweet, smoother, and definitely doesn't overwhelm your palate.
It's incredible to be over 2,200 kilometers from Mérida, to just click twice and relive moments from my childhood. The future is definitely now. I know, I know, nostalgia sells, and I'm its perfect victim. But can you blame me? 😂
