My grandmother left for her heavenly abode on Monday. She was 87 years old and had been a strong woman all her life, but it was devastating to see her helplessly lying on the bed for over a week after she had a fall that left her with a broken hip.

Granny, had a tough life. Her husband left her alone in this world with 5 little children. She being educated couldn't take up a full time job because she worried about her kids. She learnt sticking all by herself and that helped her support her family and educate her kids. When the kids were grown she lost her elder son to a freak accident. He was the one who could take her out of her poverty stricken life, but God had other plans.
She has 8 grandchildren and we all have at some point been disciplined by her. She had strict rules. My mom always tells me how naughty I was as a kid and how my granny came up with an idea to tie me up like a dog to the table so that I would not mess things up when my mom used to work. When I grew up I went to my granny and scolded her saying she has treated me like a dog and that was not right on her part and she gave me a sarcastic laugh and said 'FUCK OFF'. Granny was never fun, may be she had lost all emotions while working her ass off to raise her children. She was a rock, a solid Rock who disciplined her kids and her grand kids.
Life is so unpredictable. She was absolutely healthy when my younger son was born and within months she had slight memory loss which eventually turned out to be amnesia. She started forgetting things and sometimes wanted to see her siblings and parents who are no more in this world. Around a week back she had a fall and was admitted to hospital. Doctors said there was no hope that she would be back on her feet again as she was old and operating on her would be to just trouble her during her last few weeks. Her condition deteriorated even after getting the best medical care and we couldn't see her suffer. She wanted the tubes to be removed. She literally pulled the tubes off that many times has the sheets covered in her blood. Doctors were begging her to co operate and she wouldn't budge. Finally she breathed her last.
While the family is devastated, there is a hope that she has finally found peace. She is finally resting after her tiresome life. Rest in peace Grandma, Loved you and always will 😟.
