After the unmitigated disaster of my World Cup gambling, I return to the betting arena today refreshed, positive and eager to correct the wrongs of June and July. I was guilty of making many of the fundamental mistakes that one is taught to avoid on day 1 at gambling school. I chased losses, I bet with my heart and not my head and I went on tilt from about the quarter-finals onwards, lumping money on more and more unlikely outcomes. Yes, if one of my correct score doubles had come in then I would have been the SBC League champion for July but it would have been through no skill on my part, merely blind luck.
With that in mind, I return today for the new season with an eye on caution and a desire to start slowly and make (hopefully) steady gains. There may still be the odd correct score spread or even the occasional double but mostly I will be playing the long game.
My first bet is for over 2.25 goals on the Asian total goal market in the Southampton vs Burnley game this afternoon. Saints started last season poorly and should be looking to make a fast start against a Burnley side with one eye on the Europa League qualifiers. Danny Ings has come in for the home side and will hopefully provide the perfect foil for Manolo Gabbiadini.

Finally a huge thanks to for explaining how Asian Handicap betting works, I had a vague idea but he cleared it all up! Never easy to teach an old dog new tricks!
