Many full moons ago when I was a young boy, my brother and I spent an evening at my uncles while my mother worked an evening shift at the old folks home. I don't remember the time of year but what I watched on the television that evening had a huge impact on the years to come.
I was used to watching Saturday morning TV; Gummy Bears, Wacky Races, Scooby Doo, He-Man, Duck Tails, Inspector Gadget, Cities of Gold, Care Bears, and lots more. I remember a character from the Moomins being a little creepy, but that was about it as far as being scared.
And then, American Werewolf in London.
I remember two guys going into a pub, and being a little weirded out by the locals - probably not too dissimilar to visiting a pub off the beaten track these days really, except you wouldn't hear much chat about wolves - sheep maybe.
These two chaps in Puffa jackets left the place and proceeded to walk across a field, only for one of them to be attacked by something and eaten. The dead friend then kept visited his friend by popping up in the mirror, decaying a little each time he did.
I'm not even sure how much of that is true, but that's what I remember from the movie. What is true though is that those images fucked my sleep up for at least 2/3 years afterwards, and the scariest movie I've seen in the past 30 or so years since is probably IT, or The Saw, or 'I see dead people', and people tell me they aren't even Horror movies. I am officially too afraid to watch anything that has been screened to mess with your head, because it may well do that, and I don't sleep enough as it is.
It's fair to say that I'm not a huge fan of Halloween, but I did by some treats in case anyone knocked on my friends door this evening - which they did not. The chocolate has not been wasted though :)
On the 12th of November I move in to my new place and so for the next week or so I'm at a mates, sleeping on a mattress on the floor as their lads broke the bed-frame by jumping on it. This will do me though, it's quite cosy next to the gas radiator - something I've not seen much of in the last four years. The boiler is also in this room though and so I'll be woken up at 5:30 when it comes to life again.
Tomorrow is another holiday day, and if I am to stay at this place of work then I've still got 5 more to take before year is out, excluding the 3 already booked for Christmas. It is unlikely I'll still be 'here' though, as I got a call today asking to meet with more of the team who work for the place I went for an interview at a week ago. It sounds promising I think, but even if this doesn't work out I'm hoping for a swift change as the current role is not for me at all.
I'll probably use the day tomorrow to buy some more things for the new place, some towels might be an idea, and probably a pan and a few plates and cutlery. Sheets, an ironing board, and something to hang drying clothes on might also be a plan. Four years ago I gave all this sort of stuff away for a song, including 100's of books, a 50 inch TV, a sofa, washing machine, and a couple of decent beds with memory phone mattresses. It's a bit shit to be starting again, but this is what's required for this year at least.
Last week I bought lottery tickets to cover a couple of weeks of Euro Lottery and to my surprise I got an email today informing me I'd won a prize. After resetting my password (oops) I logged in to find that i'd won 30 pounds - about 250 STEEM. This and it being payday today have spurred me on to by a little more STEEM and hopefully these purchases work out to be reasonably timed.
Farewell Halloween, Bonfires next week :)
Cheers
