Experiments you can do with your children at home, enjoy, play and learn.
Equipment and ingredients:
- One paper sheet.
- A plate with tap water.
- Colure pencils (any kind).
The experiment:
Create a flower shape using the paper (see photo).
You can draw whatever you like on your flower. Now you will have a flower with petals leaves.
Close the petals toward the inside part of the flower (see video).
Put your flower on the water surface (the petals above) and follow the changes.
In several seconds you will see the petals start to open, until they reach the water surface.
Finally you will get a fully opened flower.
Explanation
The paper is made out of small fibers. The fibers act as a capillary vessels.
When the water touches the paper they will start to flow into the fibers and straitened them.
The elongation of the long fibers make the paper petals open.
