It was 10 years ago when I first read about plans to alter the human genome to cure diseases. Back then it was an interesting idea. Now, we have an actual proof of concept. Researchers at Rice University have developed a technique where genes are altered using Crisper and then transmitted to the cells by using a virus that ordinarily infects moths. When the genetic payload reaches the targeted cells, it is activated by nanomagnets that create a magnetic field to enter the targeted cells. This is huge. We are on the cusp of curing diseases that have plagued mankind from time immemorial. Unfortunately, it will probably be another ten years before the cure makes it way from the lab to your doctors’ office. For those of you in your 20's no big deal. For us older folks, ten years looks like a huge delay while time is literally running out. Stay healthy everyone, better times are coming.
