NGC 3628 show a galactic disk bulging and divided by dark bands of dust. Of course, this deep-fielded portrait of the magnificent spiral galaxy evokes in the minds of many astronomers its popular nickname, the Hamburger galaxy. As for the main structure of the evocative universe, NGC 3628 has a diameter of 100 thousand light-years and is approximately 35 million light-years away, in the direction of the Lion, a constellation in the northern hemisphere.
NGC 3628 is the faintest member of Leo's Triplet, a group of galaxies dominated by M65 and M66. The center of NGC 3628 emits variable X-ray radiation, perhaps indicating the presence of a massive black hole.
