Steemian friends. This time I will write a little about chemistry knowledge. Discussion on oil and water. They are like enemies who will never be peaceful.
Unification, on the other hand two human beings may be friends like cats and dogs. If you've ever seen a dog chasing a cat, then you already know that they do not get along well. They can not be friends at all.
But why water and oil can not mix? Do oil and water also have a great fight, or a grudge that has existed for thousands of years and caused them to hate each other forever? Are the oil and water similar to the amagnet poles that repel each other?
As far as I know, oil and water never fight. They can not mix, and it's not because they fight each other like silly stories above. But on the contrary, there are many very interesting chemicals that occur between oil and water, and this involves polarity.
Water:
Water has a polar molecule, one end of a molecule in water has a positive charge and at the other end of the molecule has a negative charge. When all the water molecules have converged, the negative ends present in the water molecule draw all the other ends of the positive molecule. This is the polarity that exists in water, such as salt or vinegar, they can dissolve in water.
Oil:
The molecules present in the oil are called non-polar molecules. Since non-polar molecules are soluble in non-polar solvents, this explains why oil molecules will not dissolve in a mixture of water molecules called polar.
When oil and water are combined, water molecules attract all other water molecules and get rid of oil molecules. The oil molecules of juha remain united and the two substances appear to form their own layers. Due to the closer confluence of water molecules from the oil molecules, the less dense oil molecules will float to the surface while the water molecules sink below the oil.
Water is a molecule with hydrofobic (repels water) and hydrophilic (draws water). One example is a soap, emulsifier that can attract particles of oil and hold it by mixing with water particles. That's what you do when cleaning your hands from oil.
So next time you are in a restaurant and you see oil sauce and vinegar on the table, you will know why the oil is gathered on top while vinegar and water stay at the bottom!
Try Out:
Oil and water may not mix, but you will definitely have fun if you explore the following activities with friends or family members:
Are oil and water completely unmixed? Find out yourself! Take the clear glass from the cabinet at home and fill it with water. Pour a little cooking oil into a glass and watch what happens. Will they mix? Drawing or painting, what your glass looks like after pouring oil into it. For fun, you can experiment on making an interesting herb by using different types of oil and adding food coloring to your glass of water.
Is there a way for oil and water to be friendly and mix? Take your experiment a step further by jumping to try the mixing experiment of oil and water. You also need dishwashing liquid or detergent. What is the effect of this new herb on oil and water mixing? Have fun experimenting!
Do you know people who sometimes act like oil and water? From time to time, you may notice that some people do not seem to be able to interact and mingle together. What is it about these people that make them act like oil and water? Do you know anyone like this? Brainstorm some ideas that can help you help them get through their differences. Can you be a dishwasher or detergent that brings people together? That would be a very unusual thing.
I'm a , I'm a civil engineer and an architect. My writing this time about chemistry, I am a bit familiar with chemistry, because in my college majors, chemistry is the third thing to know.
Thank you for taking the time to read my writing.
