This unassuming bird is the northern mocking bird. Rather plain looking these birds are remarkable. They get their name from their ability to mock or mimic almost sounds perfectly. Acoustical analysis can't even differentiate between a wind chime and these birds.
Male mocking birds can learn up to 200 different songs in their life time. Each song is comprised of chirps and mimicked sounds. The females do not get to learn as many songs. My research on why females don't sing as many songs is because "ain't nobody got time for that."
This avian is the state bird of five US states. Probably because the bald eagle was already taken. The five states are Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
Lastly but definitely not least is these wondrous little birds are monogamous. Once a male bird has convinced a female his imitation of a squeaky latch sounds better than the other guys they live happily ever after.
