You have possibly heard some people who said when the have died and come back to life, they saw light at the end of a tunnel or that they were watching the doctors who worked to keep them alive, that's why Dr. Sam Parnia and his team from New York, at the University Langone School of Medicine were trying to find the answer.
That research shows that after you die(we consider that someone is dead the moment it's heart stop beating), your brain continues to work for at least ten minutes.
Moments before death, your brain receives a surge of electricity and begins to lose oxygen. Even after the respiratory and circulatory systems stop you are still conscious for two to twenty seconds. The cerebral cortex, which is the part of the brain who is responsible for thinking and taking decisions, start to lose this ability without oxygen.
If a doctor doing CRP your brain takes oxygen the cerebral cortex still working and theoretically, people may even hear their own death being announced by doctors.
The part of the brain, which is responsible for the memory is the last part of your brain to shut down. At the research i mentioned above, they scanned electroencephalographic recordings and they found differences between each one of the patients. This probably means that everyone of us will go through a unique exprerience, because the memory center flashes moments from our lives.
It's also important to know that two days after death, more than 1000 genes are still working in our body, so... is it right to call someone dead, when some parts of it's body still working? And what does this mean for the organ donor, who donates immediately after death?
More research will give us the answers!
Enjoy your life!
