This is a picture of Andromeda by the Spitzer Space Telescope
The Spitzer Space telescope is strange. To effectively function some parts of the telescope must be close to absolute zero, while others have to be around room temperature. The area that must be kept cool is the cryogenic telescope assembly. This is done using liquid helium. Since this is an infrared telescope, because any infrared rays mess up the data. That is why the inner parts of the telescope must be kept cool. The electronics on the other hand can stay around room temperature. [1][2][3]
Eventually the Andromeda Galaxy will crash into our home galaxy, the Milky Way. This will happen in about 4 billion years. In collisions between galaxies stars only very rarely actually collide. More often than not stars are gravitationally flung around instead. Many change their position within the galaxy and some are thrown out entirely. [4]
