Moths can hide from bat sonar thanks to their naturally adapted wings that absorb the sound waves.
Moths have an array of scales attached to their wings that are barely a millimeter long and a few hundred micrometers thick. Each of them resonates at a particular frequency which results in a wider range of sound absorption when they work together.
The Chinese tusar moth (Antheraea pernyi) and Dactyloceras lucina, a large African moth are two species found with this acoustic stealth capability.
