Agarwood also known as "Wood as Gods" is the heartwood of Aquilaria trees. Agarwood uses range from incense for religious
ceremonies, perfume for the Arabic world, medicinal wine in Korea and ornamental functions in China. But how it is formed is interesting.
A healthy Aquilaria tree is of next to nothing, but when wounded its defence mechanism produces a dark colored resin known as Agarwood. The amazing part is that this resin is aromatic.
The Agarwood and its resin extracts are known as Oud in Arabic and are very famous as an ingredient in perfumes and aromatic oils. The scent is so popular that it is known as "Scent from Heaven". No wonder the purest form sells for about $100000 per Kg.
