Researchers have successfully synthesized artificial beta cells which have done an effective job at keeping glucose levels normal in mice for up to 5 days with appropriate insulin regulation. If the same results can be achieved in humans, it would make a significant difference to those reliant on insulin injections or mechanical pumps.
