Nowadays, few things can give us the experience of being connected with nature like feeling the smell of rain.
That smell capable of making us relive so many memories with just breathing a breath of air aroused my curiosity about it and I decided to share some interesting facts about her with you. I hope you enjoy my contribution as much as I enjoyed making the post!
- The smell of rain, It has a specific name to refer to it called petricor
- The term petricor is derived from two Greek words: petros meaning stone, and ikhôr which is the liquid that flows through the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.
- The pretricor is because when it rains, the water that comes in contact with the plants releases a natural oil in the air that the plants produce during the dry seasons to resist.
- Surely you have noticed that the smell of rain is always more intense in the first rain after a long time without having rained. This occurs when large amounts of this accumulated oil are released into the plants during the course of the drought season.
- Many experts believe that our affection for the petricor is a trace that our ancestors have left us in relation to the instinct of survival and need for water. Imagine that you are in the time of our ancestors (where there were not the facilities that many have today to get water and then) a long time struggling hard to get a few sips of water, it begins to fall from the sky in heaps, anyone he would be happy!
I hope you like these curiosities and to make the post a bit more complete, I leave a high-speed video about the process of creating the petricor made by a group of scientists from MIT
