1 Be thou my guardian and my guide,
and hear me when I call;
let not my slippery footsteps slide,
and hold me lest I fall.
...
2 The world, the flesh, and Satan dwell
around the path I tread;
O save me from the snares of hell,
thou quickener of the dead.
...
3 And if I tempted am to sin,
and outward things are strong,
do thou, O Lord, keep watch within,
and save my soul from wrong.
...
4 Still let me ever watch and pray,
and feel that I am frail;
that if the tempter cross my way,
yet he may not prevail.

Reflection
I remember this song so well back then when we were very young, it's a favourite morning hymnal song then and still till date, a must sang hymn in the Song Of Praise (SOP).
Reflecting on this song today brings back some memory on how God has been keeping mankind from known and unknown dangers both in the day and night.
It also brings this closeness to God always about man's plight on earth and his need to have a saving God beside him always, guiding his steps and looking at his shoulder while keeping this in check.
For a Christian it is a song of total devotion to God for help and guidance throughout life's journey.
