Before watching this movie, I read some movie reviews first. The score of this movie is pretty low. Thus I didn't have a lot of expectations on this film. When I was cooking, I opened my laptop and just watched it casually, but it was not bad. I just sat down and finished watching it. First of all, I still enjoy the movie. Secondly, I’m talking about film production. The overall atmosphere and story line integrity are good. At least, each has seven points out of ten.
There are basically two major directions in the supernatural horror movie. One is a technical direction. It have to spend most of energy and space on the overlap of the timeline, just like Bach's fugue. What’s more, the plot itself needs to be brain-consuming. The other is society direction. In the ethics category, most of the energy is spent on the psychological mapping and atmosphere stacking. This film belongs to the latter. Many comments said that this film is not good. The main reason is that those audiences believe it belongs to the first direction. However, it is obvious that the film did not think about explaining the source problem, just like the fluster did not explain the source problem.
On a purely technical level, the reason why this film does not engage in complex time and space is even obvious. It is not about the overlap of parallel time and space, but it is about the sum of every possible choice in every person’s life. This is different from the usual time and space overlap. Since it is a variety of different life choices, it does not care who is the first and who is the one who leads. Ethical issues naturally outweighed the question of "Where does this stone come from, what is the function of the grass, and why?"
Then the ethics is mainly about redemption. There is a sign at the entrance of the church called Blackstone Redemption Church. The murderer is also constantly clamoring for "redemption" for everyone. Eventually the naive Tobin is placed in a church that represents salvation. It is no coincidence that Cal DeMuth, Becky DeMuth, and the children in her belly have been truly redeemed. Stone represents redemption. How to redeem? By letting you see all the possible choices that you will make in your own life, then each different person will have a different "sublimation of insights". For example, Ross Humboldt is a bad person who suppresses his own nature. Then after he opened his eyes, he released the violent tendency. Travis McKean is a good boy, then he released love. The small Tobin did not form his view of good and evil, and he was more curious. As for why he touched the stone and got redemption, and then can't go out. There is no explanation. The setting is like this. The brain of my sci-fi film is very easy to brain-fill this setting. Although others are not very like this movie, from my perspective, it is not bad at all.
My Score is 5.3/10
