This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 71.
I'm playing Vierne's legendary piece, Finale from Symphony No. 1. I refer to this piece as legendary because all organists know this piece, much like the Widor Toccata, Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor and other pieces that are 'popular' (amongst organists).
I've been tinkering with the piece on and off for the last few months but my attention has been pulled in many directions with other pieces and recording smaller, more contemporary works. This evening I decided to "have a crack" at recording it, warts-and-all, for the contest. Whilst this isn't a perfect or tidy performance by any means, I hope you still enjoy listening to the piece—I still had a lot of fun playing it! My plans are to record it again, but for now this was a good exercise in airing this new music in my repertoire.
