I would read up on Avast's recent crimes before suggesting them. It is now the third time they've violated their customers.
Previous crimes include selling their data illegally, opting them into 3rd party programs without consent, and installing bloatware along side of avast without consent. I'm starting to doubt that this is a real company anymore.
I've always been recommending to my customers who do not wish to use Windows Defender, to try a product that isn't afraid to take responsibility such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (paid version), or Emsisoft Anti-Malware (paid), which utilizes both the Emsisoft and Bitdefender engines. Oh and Malwarebytes does run perfectly along side of Windows Defender
