I just joined the Steemit community and see it as a wonderful synthesis of a social media platform powered by a cryptocurrency. The greatness and longevity of Steemit relies on the community’s involvement and interaction. So, I want to contribute.
I am a cybersecurity strategist and I am absolutely passionate about my crazy and chaotic industry. I regularly speak at conferences, consult to companies, and provide insights to various organizations around the world. I am lucky that my passion and hobby is tied to my career.
I regularly blog on a number of other sites but find it somewhat lacking. There is very little back-and-forth interaction. I am happiest when I am in a discussion or debate about cybersecurity. Even after only a few days on Steemit, I see this community as being intelligent and active. I am more than happy to create posts on topics which other members are curious, furious, or are looking for the deeper meaning which might not be apparent. Haven’t we all seen some cyber-attack story in the news and thought “that sounds important but I don’t exactly know why”. This is where I come in. I want to know what security topics readers like you are interested in?
Ground rules: I am a strategist, so I look at trends, understand threats, explore incidents, give insights, and evaluate the future of how security intersects and sometimes craters how we interact with the growing digital world. I am not a techno-hacker, I don’t read hex and binary naturally, and I don’t code. Not my bag of tricks. So don’t ask me how to sniff your neighbors web-traffic, how to debug your problematic Python code, or tell you how to spy on your girl/boyfriend’s phone. Not going to help, even if I could. Lastly, because I am in the business, I will shy away from giving specific product recommendations as I am not a ‘sales’ guy.
In the past few days, I have posted a few pieces on Ransomware.
- 7 Methods to Fight Back Against Ransomware
- Ransomware attacks are now classified as HIPAA breaches by OCR
- Ransomware Help is Here
It is a fascinating topic, especially if you become a victim – which I hope you don’t. I look forward to writing about many different topics and discuss important cybersecurity activities in the news.
So what other topics are you interested in?
Perhaps:
- Global impacts of attacks, policy, and technology?
- Data Breaches and how they will affect you?
- How cybercriminals are targeting victims?
- What you should be worried about with new technology device you are about to purchase?
- Will your car, refrigerator, phone, email, tax ID, or identity get hacked?
- Digital privacy and why it is such a big deal?
- Best known practices to protect yourself, business, or organization?
- Are those phishing and spam messages really dangerous?
- How much is spent worldwide on cybersecurity and what is the overall impact of cyber risks?
- Nation states and how they are investing in cyber programs?
Steemit is a social platform, so let’s use it! Reply and tell me what cybersecurity topics you are worried about the most. This is your moment. I am listening.
