Hidden mining apps. MUCH BIGGER PROBLEMS COMING
Thats right, Zero hedge just dropped an article containing important information. The world braces for another scaled cyber attack that seems to dwarf last weeks Wanncry, says global security firm!
What is it this time?
Instead of encrypting the computer ad freezing the data for a ransome. The program ADYLKUZZ uses the machine to mine as a hidden background task. Its apparently mining MONERO! No surprise there, being the black market choice of coins. Seems to be the right calling card for the perps!
The symptoms of this hack would slow the PC or servers performance, possibly not notifying the users for quite some time that their machines have been infected. This silent mode will not alert as many users and could prove to be far more lucrative for the hackers. Turning computers all around the globe into Monero Miners!
How bad is it?
The company Proofpoint went on to comment that they had detected infected machines that had transfered several thousand dollars worth of Monero to the creators of the virus! They have basically re written some of the leaked NSA zero days programs in a stealthier manner and for a completely different purpose. hate to say it, but its rather ingenious
Can we do anything
The flaw in the file sharing protocol targeted by this program is believed to exist in all operating forms of Windows XP. Some days, be thankful for being a mac owner. Feeling sorry for the PC guys, they are getting slammed, are we next?
While this hack is much quieter than its Wannacry counterpart. It still can cause disruption depending on the course it takes.

Remember to always update your security. Your installs and profiles. Secured with decent passwords and encryption if you can.
