Hello Steemians! I wanted to make an article about a series I'm really fond of: Sense8
Sense8 is the story of 8 people from all over the world who are connected mentally, emotionally and sensorily. Since the death of a mysterious woman in Chicago, these people are bound to each other and searched by a sleazy organization.
A small presentation of the 8 characters:
- Capheus who in order to help his ill-mother and earn money to do so, he is a matatu driver in Nairobi (Kenya).
- Sun Bak is the daughter of a mighty businessman in Seoul (South Korea), she's his employee’s father but also an art martial fighter.
- Nomi Marks is a transgender woman living in San Francisco and a professional blogger/hacker.
- Kala Dandekar-Rasal works as a pharmacist in Bombay (India). She's engaged to a man, mainly because her family encouraged her to do so but she realized she's not in love with him.
- Riley Blue is a London DJ with a mysterious past, she comes from Reykjavik in Iceland.
- Wolfgang Bogdanow has also a complex history with his family, he comes from Berlin and is a professional burglar.
- Lito Rodriguez lives in Mexico but has Spanish roots, he's a well-known action movies actor who tries to hide his homosexuality.
- Will Gorski, a policeman from Chicago, who keeps remembering an unresolved murder which occurs in his childhood.
This science fiction drama series was created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and is broadcasted on Netflix since the 5th of June 2015. At the present time, the series has two seasons and one final episode will be released this year to end the series once and for all. The first season consists of 12 episodes with different time lengths and the second has 11 episodes with a special Christmas episode.
Why am I talking about it?
It took me two episodes to be really into Sense8. During the first episode, I was a bit lost in the plot. The spectator is thrown into the series without any explanations. Why are they connected? Who are the mysterious characters in some scenes? But as the episodes go along, we get more and more clues about the situation.
The wide diversity of places makes me really enjoy this series since the characters come from almost all the continents: Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa. We can explore many countries such as India, South Korea, Kenya, Mexico, Iceland, the USA, England, and Germany.
Moreover, the characters remain really diversified with their own personality and history. I've never liked so many characters in one series. Honestly, I would say that I don't like only one people in the 8 characters for the reason that they all have something which makes them endearing.
The producers decided to treat contemporary subjects which still raise concerns in our society such as sexuality, politics, religion, gender, and identity. The Wachowski sisters have no taboos and it's refreshing to see a series which doesn't fear to address delicate issues. Some scenes are disturbing, but you get used to it. I don't want to spoil anything, so you will find out if you watch it!
Unfortunately, Netflix didn't want to maintain the series after two seasons, but they agreed with the producers to end it with a final episode of two hours.
Basically, I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys science fiction and complex plot! I wasn't excited by reading the plot but now that I have watched it, I will definitely rewatch it before the final episode comes out!
