When my girls were little, I thought I would sew lots of cute clothes for them. But I had great sources for wonderful hand-me-downs so I only remember sewing two or three dresses apiece. Now I have a granddaughter and the sewing bug has bitten me once again. A friend gave me some lengths of adorable fabric she had left from when her girls were younger, as well as some suitable patterns.
These are the dress pieces.
And the ruffle.
And the pockets.
I sent these pictures to my daughter so she could show my granddaughter the progress. The toddler is reported to have said, "Pockets! To put my money in!"
Oddly enough, this pattern calls for two pockets on the back (like jeans, I guess) and one bib pocket on the front. The front pocket was supposed to be more rectangular with rounded corners. I didn't like the way it turned out, so I followed my husband's suggestion and made another like the back pockets to put on the front. I definitely prefer it.
At my house, no sewing project is complete without feline "help."
Front view of the finished product!
Back view. I am not sure whether those cute little bows will stay sewed on if she goes down a slide at the playground while wearing this, but they look good right now.
