During the time we spent in the Seychelles in August and September of 1973, a visit to the world famous Vallée Du Mai on the island of Praslin was a must. Praslin is the second largest island of the group and lies about 45 km to the northwest of Mahe, the largest and main island. It took us just over 5 hours to sail our yacht Nkwazi across there from our base in Beau Vallon Bay and we anchored in Grand Anse in the evening.
The next morning after breakfast all five of us walked the approximately two kilometres to the Vallée Du Mai in the Praslin National Park situated inland in the southeast of the island. The path wound its way through the beautiful tropical forest with lovely streams and waterfalls. We came to the information centre where we learnt about the unique Coco De Mer (Double Coconut) – it is the only place in the world where this palm tree is found in the natural. The park has also been proclaimed as a World Heritage Site!
