Marvel is very shy about taking the next steps in its 4th phase. After the Black Widow storyline is over, it is time to introduce a new hero that can be an essential part of the new story, a warrior named Shang-Chi. Is he worthy of becoming the next member of the Avengers? We check.
Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings is another Marvel's approach to showing the genesis of a superhero and the way he had to go before he became a full-fledged hero. Unlike the rest of the characters we know, this one doesn't have any powers at the beginning. He's just an ordinary man who has just been trained very well by the assassin league. And it seems to me that this is what convinces us immediately. It has no other advantages. He lacks any kind of charisma or sense of humor. Therefore, he is probably accompanied by his friend played by Awkwafina, who is a constant delivering of gags. That's probably why the creators cling to it so tightly, because let's face it, viewers are already used to this loose comedy convention of MCU movies.
The story itself is not complicated, but it is far from what Feige and the crew have got used to. It's more like a mix of Mulan and Ray and the last dragon than a new Marvel show. And with this they probably have a chance to win the hearts of viewers. Getting out of a safe form that many people have already got bored of. We have already seen ordinary action movies this year in Black Widow and it is rather enough for us for now. Here we have a certain freshness exploring more the world slightly occupied by Doctor Strange. Anyway, it is no coincidence that the well-known Wong appears here.
Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings smoothly fit into the entire MCU puzzle, tying some threads from, for example, Iron Man 3 and laying the foundations for subsequent films. He shyly takes the next steps in the 4th phase, although not as bold as I would have expected. You can see that Marvel takes time and does not want to rush. Although after that it cannot be hidden that Doctor Strange and his companion will play a key role in this phase.
During the screening, I was very positively surprised by the choreography of the fights and how they were carried out. It looks very nice. If I had to compare these sequences to something, it would probably be to the series Warrior. And this is, in my opinion, a very high production shelf in the current cinema and television. Unfortunately, as it happens with Marvel, the final had to be dominated by CGI and this whole breathtaking fight disappeared somewhere. You can see that this team feels bad if they don't spend several million dollars on special effects.
